The First Recording

"Computer, personal entry. Index for later transmission.

"Wife, you charged me to return with honor or not at all. I fear it may be some time until I can fulfill your charge. I fear when I can return with honor that I will not have a home to return to. But whatever fears I have, I will neither turn from battle nor seek respite until the Empire and my House are safe. Would that I could be there to lead our son on the first steps of the warrior's path, but if I cannot teach him in person then let my example teach in absence. A warrior's first duty is to the Empire and his House. Without the Empire, the House is adrift. Without the House, the warrior has no home.

"It is strange to be here on a Federation starship. Their lights are too bright and their air is too dry and cold, like being high on a mountain. But I have overcome worse. The stinking swamps of the ghewHom SuDqu' did not make my heart faint and neither will this sterile vessel. These Starfleet types value their comfort and have gone to great lengths to make sure that I am... comfortable as well. The day my ship is repaired and I can enjoy proper quarters and a proper environment cannot come soon enough.

"I trust that this message will find you well, even if the usurpers have taken the planet. General Duhek is cunning and I know that he will have a way for the House to survive and see the crisis through with honor. The usurpers cannot afford to quell worlds in full rebellion and hope to stand against the might of the Empire. You and the children will weather this storm and come out the other side stronger for it, for you are true Klingons of the kind that would make Kahless proud. If you do not, I will avenge myself a hundred times over against the ones foolish enough to keep you from me and twice that on those that would threaten the future of the House.

"Rumor has it that there is a Ferengi on board who can get anything for a price. I do not have much to offer now, but I will seek him out and see what can be done to get these messages to you. The profit-minded fools are soft and cowardly, but they have their use in the right time. If that cannot be accomplished, or I am unable to return to you, then I will wait in Sto'Vo'Kor and tell you of what is in my heart and mind. Though I suspect it is the same as lives in yours.

"Computer, end recording."
